Simon opened his mouth to protest; but the threat towards Checkers really got to him. He didn't want to be responsible for pain towards his dog. So, he huffed, and with his free hand took Checkers gently by the rope on his neck.
"Fine then," he spoke, turning and practically pulling his dog with him. It was not resisting; more or less it just wasn't going very happily. The dog wished to harm this lizard quite badly, as it still continued to snap and growl.
"easy boy..." the squire muttered, praying that he might run into a knight or guard soon to get him to the castle.
Ezhno smiled as Chase turned and began to leave. He pulled the dagger out with a wince and was about to pursue, make this boy pay for his foolishness. No one would miss him for sure. He took a step forward.
"SIIIIIIMMMMON!!!!!" a voice called out, booming through the alleyways. A second later and Dawn turned the corner, his arms crossed as he spotted the squire. He stared sternly.
Ezhno ran the other way, deeper into the alleys.
"Well, looks like a finly fond ye..." he said, his voice sounding like punishment was on the near future.

His previously white face soon turned a beat red. I am in such deep trouble, I am in such deep trouble...
"Hello sir," Simon stood up straight, letting go of Checkers collar. The dog turned its head, searching the area for the lizard man. He could not see him; the dog gave out a huff.
"I apologize for being outside the grounds so late, my dog took off after a squirrel while we were walking back, and I had to get him. Don't know my way around these parts of the city."
His excuse was believable enough- perhaps not to Dawn, but the usual person might believe him.
Though, at being blamed for their tardiness, Checker's ears perked up and he looked at his master.
Dawns face held strong and his arms slowly uncrossed. "Come lad. Its late and I'm tired, we can dicuss all this n tha morn." He said as he began walking away.
He shook his head, "Ya lucky boy, this place at this hor. You could have been killed have ye not herd the rumors of the giant?"

So far so good. Simon was a bit relieved. But upon hearing about a giant, it sparked his curiosity. "What giant? I've not heard anything about any giants. Would it not be too big to be hiding in the alleys, anyways?"
"Devan boy, Devan." Dawn sighed, as a squire the lad was previledged to know things the public did not, but this? "The terror of the allays, he does noot hide. Many a men have died by his hand, ripped to bloody pieces. The giant tore through squads of soldiers like they were dancing girls." He explained further as they exited the alleys altogether. "Sir Walter supposably had slain the bastard, but rumors tell a different tal. They tal of the giant returning larger than he was before, and wit a largar lust for bloood."

Simon's eyebrows furrowed; Checkers looked around wearily.
Devan. He heard of the man. A terror to all that lay eyes upon him, a menace to all living things. Rumored to have killed half of an army with only one hand. Though, those were probably just stories; or so Simon hoped.
He had heard of the death of Devan through a knight of Avaleur, though the story varied. Some said a group of mercenaries did it, others the entire army of Avaleur all at once. Some kept true, and said the demon Knight had done the deed. But Simon always heard something follow soon after; 'Only the damned can kill the damned.'
"Don't suppose Devan might attack the castle, then? If a knight killed him," the squire chewed at his bottom lip a bit nervously. But if the knight Walter had killed the giant before, he could do it again, right?
"If tha stories be true then aye could see him seeking a bit of revenge." Dawn admitted. The castle soon came into view and Dawn stopped. "You can fin yerself back can't ye?" He let out a yawn, having being called in the middle of his sleep to go hunt for a missing squire.

Oh, the worry coursed through him. The thought of a giant wanting revenge, and Simon perhaps being in the thick of it... Checkers licked his hand, feeling his master's discomfort.
But a bit of relief came to him after looking up, and giving out a sigh. The castle. It was straight-forward from hereon out.
"Yes sir, and thank you," he stated, bowing to Dawn politely.
The squire soon grew a bit excited at the thought of fighting lessons, riding lessons, fencing, bows and arrows, and all of the amazing stuff he would get to do just the next day.
Little did he know that was only a quarter of the work- english, math, history. He had no idea what was coming to him. But for now, to sleep when he got back to the castle.
