(Reserved for Meryl)
Elle giggled at Meryl’s display of silliness, finding it funny and a tad charming. She looked up as they neared the shop, the windows dark, though that hardly meant a thing really. She stopped, looking up at Meryl with a slightly excited grin.
“This is it!” she said happily. “My brother’s shop.” She stepped up to the door, pulling out a key from her pocket. “It looks dark and all but I’m sure he’s up and working.” She unlocked the door and stepped into the darkness, slipping the key back into her pocket before lifting a hand. She created a small ball of fire, the fire floating an inch above her palm, using her magic to make a torch of sorts. The fire lit the room, revealing a large, open room, many shelves lining the walls, packed with different bottles and potions. On one wall hung different herbs and spices, different ingredients others could buy to use. There was a long counter where Aerin held his transactions, and behind it was a door to his office, half open, and next to the a hallway leading to the back kitchen and dining area. The stairs were off the dining area, which led to the second story, which was a completely open space, containing Aerin’s bedroom and living area.
“Aerin?” Elle called, shutting the door behind them a relocking it. She paused, smelling blood in the air, and for a moment felt anxiety rising. Why was she smelling blood?
“Back here,” a male voice called from the office. Elle, looking worried, hurried towards the office, not giving Meryl much time to look about the room if he wanted. She pushed the office door open all the way and paused, seeing Aerin sitting at his desk, currently clutching a cloth to him arm, which appeared to be bleeding. His office was a completely mess, bookshelves overturned, broken glass from his work instruments littered the floor, and the faint scent of sulfur. There were deep claw marks on the floor and walls, along with some splattered blood.
“Gods! What the hell happened here?” Elle exclaimed, turning to find a lamp and light it, giving the room a brighter glow so she and Meryl could see better.
