Dosise sat in the corner of the Paineston dungeon. Chains covered his body to keep him from escaping. He looked down, eyes closed thinking of Stacy.
Keys jingled in the distance and footsteps were heard as a man in a large red cloak walked down the steps and down the dark corridor towards the cell that was holding Dosise. The hooded man slowly unlocked the bared door and walked into the damp dark cell. The only light was a ray coming from a high window that shone on and in front of Dosise. The man walked up to him and stood for a moment above Dosise before giving him a hard swift backhand. Dosise's head turned as he was struck.
'Look at me!' the man says coldly and hoarsely. He grabs his head and lefts it up so that he is looking in the man's eyes. He removed his hood and smiled a creepy devious smile.
"Cornelius....my mentor, my teacher.....My greatest enemy." he spits towards the ground and shakes his head loose from his grip.
Cornelius frowned, "What was your plan? What did you truly believe that you could help Phillis save his brother from us? You fool!" he shook his head and let the quiet fill the room. "You could have been so much more...." Cornelius pulled out a sword and slowly plunged it into Dosise's stomach. He lifted up until the screams of pain ended with the gargling of blood as it filled and poured from his mouth.
Dosise woke up covered in sweat. He sat up in his bed and relaxed upon finding out it was just a dream. He had been having nightmares often now. Although he had killed Cornelius during his last assignment in Paineston, the man still tormented him in his dreams. He got out of bed, dressed, and walked out of his house. He had bought a small, rather destroyed house just on the outer rim of the town. It wouldn't make much sense for a Lord to be living with criminals. He looked at the already busy center of town, he was rather far from the crowd but he could still see and hear them. He thought of Stacy and went back inside to make soup for lunch, he had slept for quite some time today.
He stirred the ingredients and added the certain spices. But, he could not get the thought of Cornelius put of his head. The man was practically a prodigy when it came to killing. He had taught him everything that he knew, except for what his signature catching a blade with his hand. He had only half learned the skill and was truly the only regret that he had about killing the man. The man was the best, but he let that get into his head. He let power control his mind. What Dosise lacked in magic and skill he made up for in intelligence and whit. Although he could never break a man's neck with the flick of a wrist, he could understand that power and force was not everything. Dosise had learned a great amount from Cornelius's teachings, but perhaps more from the errors in his own self.
It had been several minutes of thought and cooking when he decided that he should leave the past to the past. He had dwelled on it for too long. What happened happened, he would have to learn the blade catching technique on his own and train to be able to protect Phillis. That is what was before him now. Enoch's life was over.
He got a bowl and scooped up the soup and placed the steaming liquid into it. He laughed when he realized he had made much more than he needed. 'must have been all that thinking of Stacy, I made soup for two,' he smiled as he took his first bite.
