Alice looked down sadly, a tear escaping from her eye. She had really hoped Dante would like her..

"I'll help, I'm just not her parent. She seems like a sweet girl, Phillis, but I'm not ready for a child."

[Phillis Von Christ]

Phillis sighed. "That really baffles me. But okay. As long as you help with her, I guess that's fine. She's still going to call you daddy whether you like it or not though, because it's super cute."

Phillis picked Alice up and set her on his lap. He wiped her tears away with his sleeve. "It's okay, he likes you, sweetie." he smiled. "He's just a grumpy bum."

"I am not," Dante pursed his lips.

Alice looked at Phillis, but didn't smile. She still felt bad for being the reason the two were fighting.
She glanced at Dante, and the look on his face made her start crying again. She jumped from Phillis' lap and ran to her room, crying the whole way.

"Alice!" Phillis called after the girl, but she was gone. He sighed, looking at Dante. "You hurt her feelings."

"And is that really my fault? First you adopt someone without even speaking with me, and when I ask to speak in private to avoid her being harmed you give me no choice but to speak infront of her!" Dante's voice raised with each word that he spoke.

[Phillis Von Christ]

"Okay, so clearly everything is my fault and I'm sorry but you could have been a little more gentle with your words!" Phillis huffed. "Whatever, I'm going to go see how she's doing. You might not care about her, but I do." he said, leaving the room to go after the girl.

Dante scowled, fairly pissed off, an emotion he barely ever felt. He walked in the opposite direction.

Phillis knocked on Alices bedroom door, waiting for the girl to answer.

Alice heard the knock on her door and, fearing it was Dante, considered hiding in the closet. But after a moment's consideration, she walked over and opened the door a crack. Seeing Phillis standing there, she threw the door open and leaped into his arms, sobbing.

Phillis hugged the girl tightly. "Aw, don't cry, baby." he said, holding her up. He walked into the room and shut the door with his foot.

He then walked over to the girls bed and set her down gently, sitting beside her. "Why're you so upset? Hm? Daddy likes you, he's just a bit angry at me right now. It's no big deal, he gets angry at me all the time."

Alice hugged Phillis' waist tightly and cried for a minute before saying, "H-he doesn't like me.. H-he said he d-doesn't want me. He's mad and i-it's my fault. It's all my fault Papa!" She hugged the man tighter and whispered, "I-I shouldn't have come here.. I should have known I would only cause problems. I'm s-sorry.."

Phillis gently pushed the girl away, he placed his hands on her shoulders and looked directly into her eyes. "Nothing is your fault, okay? You coming here was one of the best things to happen to me. I don't care what anyone says, you're my daughter and I love you. Daddy likes you too, he's just angry and can't think straight, just give him some time, okay? Can you do that for me?"

Alice wiped her tears and smiled at Phillis. "Ok, Papa. For you, I will." She hugged him and smiled, feeling a little more at home now that Phillis was here.

Phillis hugged the girl back, gently patting her back. " Thank you, honey." he grinned at the girl. She really was adorable.

"But.. Papa, what if he never wants to be my Daddy?" She asked.

"Don't be silly." Phillis gently tapped the tip of her nose with his finger. "He's your daddy whether he wants to be or not. I already signed his name on the papers."

Alice giggled despite herself. "So, he won't get mad if I call him Daddy?"
