Hunting was one of those things Hanna either loved or regretted. She would love it if she was able to take something down by herself and enjoy her own meal without interruption. Or she'd hate it if she couldn't find anything. Or if said prey was too quick for her tired body to keep up with. All too often she had gotten the thought of heading into the city and scavenging for food.
Or hang around the butcher shop for some scraps. But with her appearance as a normal-looking wolf, anyone could tell just by her size that she was no regular dog. and her eyes... Though not golden, looked human enough in a way to get many suspicious. But it didn't stop her from being somewhat daring and driven by hunger to stick around the roads and pick off any animals that were straying from their keepers. Like a sheep or goat or duck or whatever she could probably get her teeth around.
She was a stealthy critter however and she had managed to pluck out a baby goat from a passing man who had been bringing them to market to sell. She might get lucky in the passing months, seeing as all the spring babies were coming up. This was no exception. And the meat was delicious. Honestly, it had to be the best meal she had in weeks. If not a couple months or so. It filled her belly and she laid herself down to sleep that afternoon next to the carcass.
And she slept peacefully until night fell and the full moon rose above her, giving light to the entire forest. The gleaming, silver beams stretched across the landscape and shine above her when she opened her eyes. She blinked, her nose instantly picking up the scent of her meal she had feasted on earlier. The remnants of the carcass had been picked at by foxes and other small creatures that dared to take a bite while she was sleeping. But that didn't bother her.
She stretched her furry body, gave a squeaking yawn that exposed her large teeth and gaping maw. and soon, she stood there, looking up at the night sky and catching sight of the stars above through the forest canopy. And from the darkness across the lands and wilderness, she heard howls. Celebratory mostly. Every full moon was like that wherever she went. But unlike packs of the usual wolves, Hanna never felt the control of the moon over her. Therefore, she had never once howled.
She started walking in the darkness, guided by what light the moon gave out through the forest, seeing things she had come across before but failed to notice the detail. Like the trees and the animals wandering about. Possums, foxes, raccoons... The normal sort of nocturnal critters like herself. She had slept well and would be up all night. Which, on a night like this, she didn't mind.
But she noticed something. She was coming into a part of the forest that she had never seen before. It smelled old, but beautiful. She knew the ruins of the old castle were out in the west area of Avaleur somewhere. But she had never smelled this place before. Gently, she trekked on and it wasn't long before she came upon the forest shrine. From the edge of the small clearing, she could see the statue of a woman.
Over her was a roof held by four pillars. Flowers, candles, incense and small gifts of sorts rested at the base of the statue. A place of worship to a goddess. Hanna didn't believe in such things. Gods and goddesses... To her, it was like folklore. She blinked and stepped quietly out of the brush, approaching the statue. A heavy sigh came from her lungs before she sat a few feet from the platform the statue rested upon.
Her blue eyes were fixated on the stone woman's face, studying it carefully. As if it would give her a reason why she was there in the first place. But nothing except the slight wind and insects and creatures in the woods made any noise this night. Hanna remained quiet in her wolf form, soon looking to the moon with a great feeling in the pit of her heart. Her wolf wanted to run soon. They would. And be basked in the light of the full moon. But for the time being, this statue had her curiosity completely.
