Play-By: Mads Mikkelsen
Name: Winston Masal
Age: 40
Gender: Male
Race: Human/Werewolf
Location: Avaleur
Guild: N/A
Classes: Hunter, Fighter
Appearance: Winston isn't too tall, or too short, too fat, or too thin. As body types go, he's average, standing at about 5'10'' and weighing in around 170 lbs. His shaggy blond hair hangs at about chin level, and is in dire need of a trim. His scruffy beard needs the same treatment. He usually has his hair pushed back or tied into a short ponytail to keep it out of his face. The dirty blond color is beginning to give way to gray. His sunken dark eyes, edged by crow's feet, always look tired. Worry lines and frown lines mark his brow and mouth adding to the general sense of tiredness that hangs about him. Donned in furs and a few leather bags carrying all of his worldly belongings, he does not cut a very imposing figure, at least in his human form.
When he transforms, he grows to seven feet tall when he stands at full height. His fur remains the same shade of dirty blond fading to gray as his hair. This and his dark eyes are the only clues to his human identity. He remains bipedal, but walks hunched over in order to move easily to running on all fours. He grows viciously long claws and menacing sharp teeth, but hates to use them unless absolutely necessary. Necessary events include: hunting and when physically threatened.
About: Winston loves people. After several long lonely years in the snowy mountains of Avaleur, he craves human interaction. However, Winston spent the vast majority of those long lonely years as a werewolf learning how to control that other half. He didn't come in contact with many humans unless necessary, and as a result, has lost most of his capacity for human speech. Suffice to say, Winston is a man of few words. He has been re-learning social cues and still remembers common words and phrases. His friendly demeanor and willingness to learn and correct himself mostly makes up for his social awkwardness.
He has a strict distinction between right and wrong and holds himself to strict moral code. He is quick to lend a hand, provide for those that have little, and treats all he meets with respect unless they prove they aren't deserving of it, even to his own detriment. He resorts to arguments and violence as a last resort in any confrontation. His werewolf side has heightened his violent tendencies and keeping them under control is incredibly difficult and takes a lot of concentration. He pours his aggression into hunting, taking any anger out on to the unsuspecting creatures in the woods. This has cultivated an increased amount of patience for others, and makes pushing his buttons very difficult. Watch out if you do manage to push him to the edge, it won't end well for anyone.
Weaknesses/Fears: Winston's greatest fear is to lose his self control If his werewolf half were to take over completely, and he were to lose the rest of his humanness, he would be no better than the animals that he hunts. He doesn't want his years of isolation to be for nothing. This results in his his greatest weakness: not fighting back. Winston will endure a lot of pain until he feels the need to fight back. He often turns tail and runs from physical altercations. Unless he can't escape, or feels his life is in danger, Winston won't harm his opponent.
Weapons/Magic: He carries a broad axe while human, but relies on claws while transformed. He is magically inept.
History: Winston Masal was born on the outskirts of the city of Hollow the youngest son of a family of lumberjacks. He had a very easy and fairly uneventful childhood, and was often coddled for being the baby. However, living in a land of perpetual snow inspires a person to learn a lot about the wilderness and survival, and his parents made sure to ingrain these lessons into their children. He was surrounded by a large loving family of two brothers and three sisters with strong work ethics and moral convictions. Winston went into his father's trade at the age of sixteen, following one of his brothers and two of his sisters. He worked with his father for ten years until the accident. Winston had ventured into the forest alone to gather some extra wood for the coming winter when he was attacked by a rogue werewolf. He fought tooth and nail against his attacker and managed to escape, but not before suffering a bite to the arm that would change his life forever.
Winston knew from stories what werewolves were capable of. He couldn't be responsible for the devestation that he would cause his family if he changed suddenly. He needed to leave if he wanted to protect them. Quickly binding his wound, and hefting his axe on to his good shoulder, Winston took off in the opposite direction of civilization. He set up a makeshift base camp and stored his supplies, ready to hunker down for the winter. His first shift happened not long after. It was painful and horrible, and all he wanted was someone to tell him he would live through it. He did. He roamed the woods for weeks stuck in this state. The entire time he fought against the animal instincts, and eventually this lead to him changing back. The shift back wasn't nearly as painful, but the harsh winter conditions on his non-fur covered body made it just as bad. He thought he would die from exposure, until he discovered that in his changed state he had marked trees to lead him back to his site. Using his survival lessons, he made it back and began to make a real home in the middle of the woods.
After readjusting, he made a plan. He obviously had some part of himself that remained conscious while he was in his changed state. All he needed to do was bring that human part to the fore, and learn to control his beast self. Then he wouldn't be a danger, and he could go home to his family. This plan was easier said than done. He spent years wandering the forest in his self-imposed exile. However, he did master several different techniques with all of his time. He became a skilled hunter and mastered shifting between his two forms though not the energy required to shift. It left him in either state for a couple of days before he could switch back. It took more time for him to trust himself around large groups of people for extended periods of time. Eventually, he felt confident enough to return to human society and make a living.
Now Winston is at a point where he can't really remember a time before the bite. He has forgotten his goal to return to his family, too ashamed to show them what he has become. Instead he has decided to create a new life in a new city. He has traveled down out of the mountains ready to start again.
