Name: Eloise Ostwald
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Location: Avaleur
Guild: N/A
Classes: Mage, Healer
Appearance: Eloise is 5’ 4’’ and weighs 100 pounds. Though she’s quite tiny, she carries herself as if she were the tallest person in the room. Back straight, shoulders back and chin tilted slightly upward to give the impression that she is constantly looking down on everyone else. It’s really to hide the fact that she has to look up at everyone because of her stature. A childish face with large dark eyes and black short curly hair do nothing to add to the facade of pompousness. Eloise is small and straight all over with no curves to speak of. Something she curses constantly as it is another reason that she is often mistaken for a child.
She tries to offset this misconception with the clothing she chooses to wear. While working, she tends to wear dark fitted austere clothing. Most often she can be found wearing a fitted blouse tucked into riding breeches with her worn black riding boots. Flowing clothes have no place in the work of a healer. They have a tendency to get in the way. The only ornamentation she allows herself are her gold earrings, a gift from her mother. She will occasionally allow herself to indulge in dresses and skirts, but prefers trousers for their allowance for movement. She also believes dressing in a militaristic manner will afford her more respect.
About: Eloise is very single minded. Once she sets out to do something she will not stop until it is done, and done perfectly. And right now she is set on becoming the best healer in all of Avaleur. She is highly organized and has plans and schematics for everything. Don’t ask her about what she wants to do with her life. You’ll be stuck for hours listening to her talk about her goals and her five step plan to achieve them. She even has charts! Her focus may seem to make her no nonsense, severe, and a little stand-offish, but she’s still just a kid, despite her protestations to the contrary. It pops up every once in a while if you get her on to a topic she’s passionate about, and she is passionate about many things. She has an intense curiosity that drives her to learn everything possible about a subject, and will often spend long nights poring over books soaking in every fact.
Eloise doesn’t like to have her time wasted, and can be curt and a little rude in social interactions. She would lighten up a little if she didn’t feel like she had to constantly prove herself to others, and hates nothing more than believing that she is not being taken seriously. She can be a gentle and caring girl when the situation calls for it, and has proven to have a lovely bedside manner. Befitting a healer, she is the calm in the middle of the storm during medical emergencies. Take her outside of the infirmary though, and stress makes her irritable and panicky. Don’t even think of coming anywhere near her if one of her plans had been offset.
Weaknesses/Fears: Eloise is stubborn and believes that she always has the best plans. She does not work well in teams, and this has often gotten in her into tight spots that she had to extract herself from with extreme difficulty and care. She also overestimates herself believing that she is capable of many things where she does not even have the first clue. Eloise fears failure above all. She can’t stand the thought of being a disappointment to her parents or her patients. In order to avoid facing her fear, she convinces herself thoroughly of her success in most things. It is the reason for her focus on attaining perfection. It takes a lot of convincing and shaking to get Eloise to admit to any mistakes. She does not handle setbacks well.
Weapons/Magic: A small blade for self-defense tucked in to her boot is her only weapon. Her magic powers have been developing steadily under the tutelage of her mother and father and at school. She has focused primarily on healing spells, having a good grasp on closing wounds, numbing pain, and extracting poisons. As she continues to improve these spells, she has set her eyes on protection spells. She hopes one day that she can become a battle healer, and help those fighting in the field. Though not technically magic, she also has knowledge of plants and potions that can aid in the healing process for those situations where magic isn’t enough.
History:The Ostwalds are a long line of of prestigious healers and mages in Avaleur. Eloise’s parents are no exception, both prominent leaders in their field. Her father specializes in magic while her mother’s focus is in potions. Eloise is the only contribution to the Ostwald line that her parents were able to produce, though she has an overabundance of cousins, aunts, and uncles. As Eloise grew it became apparent that she had inherited her mother’s magic and her father’s aptitude for brewing potions. The Ostwalds were overjoyed that their daughter would be able to carry on both of their professions. Eloise began training almost as soon as she could stand, and it consumed most of her free time. From a young age she has heard, numerous times, the tales of her historic ancestors at family gatherings. Marveling at their success and achievements, she became determined to go down in Ostwald history as one of the most accomplished healers the family has ever seen.
When she began school, there was hardly a moment when she was not studying. She also began going to the infirmary with her parents, and learning from watching them work. Though she quickly found out that knowledge was not the only reason she wanted to become a healer. She began to genuinely care for the patients she saw and the good that a healer was capable of. She wanted to help these people, ease their pain, get them back on their feet. Eloise became a familiar face at the infirmary even when her parents weren’t working, constantly pestering mages and healers on their techniques and their knowledge. Once she was in her teens, she took up an assistant position at the infirmary. Between work and school, Eloise has little time for socializing with kids her age, but this thought has never bothered her. She has the Ostwald name to live up to, and she intends to do it.
