*Name:
Hansel Grimoire (Nisemono Erufu)
*Age:
76
*Gender:
male
*Race:
Elf
Location:
Journeying
Guild:
none
*Class(es):
Warrior, Fighter, Mage
*Appearance:
Hansel is around 5'10" tall and has a lean, yet muscular build that betrays how strong he is. Despite being Elvish, he looks like a human male. He has Brown hair that reaches past his shoulders and commonly wears it in a pony tail and dark blue eyes that are hidden underneath a brow that is almost always furrowed for one reason or another. He likes to scowl a lot, and shows no visible scars. He commonly wears a Shihakusho with a red haori or dresses in the garb of the commoners where he is currently located. Because of that, he can change appearance a lot. He wears close toed shoes of a brown color that reach up to his knees as well. His ears are slightly pointed, but you couldn't really notice if you didn't look carefully. Despite his age, he appears to be a human male in his twenties which adds even more to the deception.
*About:
Hansel used to be a mercenary, using his natural skills as an elf to take on the problems of rich humans. He was inherently greedy and cocky, believing no human to be his equal and actually enjoyed fighting and killing them simply because he could. He always fought with a katana so he could cut his victims apart, and sometimes his clients if they didn't pay enough. He got angry easily as well, taking any excuse he could to simply stab something.
More recently, however, he has taken on more of a reserved personality. He only gets his old urges and his old temper back under more extreme circumstances. He almost never smiles and is always serious. He holds the lives of his comrades closer to heart, chastising opponents that would do different.
*Weaknesses/Fears:
With the right emotional triggers, Hansel can be made very angry very quickly which results in a more berserker like fighting style. That means his defense goes out the window in favor of killing his opponent as fast as possible. Being a user of fire, water is also a bane to him in terms of his long range fighting abilities. He is afraid of returning to the way he used to be, which is why he tries to remain so stoic all the time. In mid to close range combat, longer reaching weapons have the advantage over him until he gets inside their effective radius. A skilled user could use this to their advantage and completely hinder his entire fighting style.
Weapons/Magic:
Hansel uses a single katana as his main weapon and in his sixty years of using it has mastered many different fighting styles involving the use of the weapon. As such, he is formidable in terms of swordsmanship fights. He was also taught by a former comrade how to fist fight, learning a couple martial arts styles if for some reason he couldn't use his blade.
In terms of magic, he only uses fire magic. This magic is derived from the katana he carries, which will be elaborated on in the history section. He himself can only use the same magic as said sword is capable of using.
His magical abilities so far extend towards using fire manipulation to create offensive and defensive strategies, with no particular shape. The magnitude of the flames, however, is directly effected by his personal stamina. For example, he couldn't create a fire the size of a city block if he was already worn out to the point of near exhaustion. Thus, he has to balance his magical and physical fighting styles in tandem.
His one spell is a spell that releases the true form of his blade and unlocks subsequent abilities.
Shō Taiyō (Small Sun)- Hansel uses this spell to absorb all the flames he has created into the blade of his katana. This gives it the appearance of being burned and chipped, like it was a sword older than the world itself. However, the power of the flames absorbed is channeled directly to any part of the katana. The smaller the area the flames are focused, the more devastating and focused the strike.
Saigo no Bakuhatsu- Anything struck by the area of the blade under the influence of Shō Taiyō is ignited immediately and if not extinguished quickly, will burn to ashes. Hansel hasn't mastered this ability yet, however, having only unlocked it within the last few years. As such, he can't control the power for very long and has a time limit of twelve posts from the first use. He must wait another three before activating it again, and then the time limit is halved. Should he use it a third time, the ability will last for two posts before he collapses from exhaustion.
History:
Hansel was born to his parents, a pair of outcast High Elves, in the middle of a forest. The night he was born, his father died protecting his mother and Hansel from the predators attracted by the scent of blood. Narrowly escaping, Hansel's mother took her child to Paineston where she found a job as a street performer. Hansel grew up poor and fatherless, taking to stealing and fighting to get attention. Feeling wronged by the world and knowing he was different from the other children in the city he lived in, he exerted his control over them. Years passed with his behavior going unchecked by his mother and it developed into a feeling of dominance over humans. He believed himself superior to them in every way and thought that any who would deny him what he wanted should die instead. As such, the half brother his mother bore by a human man was a frequent target of oppression by Hansel.
He set out when he was thirteen, against his mother's wishes, and found a man who ran a mercenary company. Seeing the boy's talent for fighting, he took him in and showed him how to fight with a katana. They trained daily, and one day Hansel struck down his mentor and took over his company of mercenaries for his own. For forty five years, he ran this company of mercenaries. He found many masters of the katana, learned their way of the sword, and improved his skills. He enjoyed his life, getting rich on the misery and taken lives of other people. He was merciless and thorough, truly believing he couldn't be beaten.
The same year he turned 65 years old, he received a contract to kill an old elemental by the name of Furui Kasai. He had been a renowned fire elemental that resided in a hut on the outskirts of Paineston. Believing it to be an easy payday, He set off with his entire company in tow and quickly arrived at the aforementioned cottage. This is when the biggest surprise he had ever received set upon him. His half brother, now a very powerful sorcerer, ambushed his company and slaughtered them all within minutes. Using a worn out katana, his brother impaled Hansel through the chest and pinned him to the ground. He used magic unheard of by many to delve into Hansel's soul, revealing its contents to both Hansel and his brother.
Hansel saw his true soul, how black it was with the exception of a small part. He realized then that he had felt abandoned by his father, betrayed by the people he was supposed to call his race. He felt anger towards himself and the two parts of his soul battled each other (figuratively, of course). He resigned himself to death, accepting that he deserved it, but at the same time feeling the intense urge to smash his half human brother into the ground.
It was then that his brother cursed him. He cursed Hansel, stripping him of his elvish strength, speed, and stamina. He replaced it with a human appearance, giving him his brown hair and rounding out his ears. He cursed him to be like those which he had believed to be inferior. The only elvish trait not stripped from him was the slow aging, as that was past the extent of his brother's abilities. Without another word, his brother left Hansel laying on the ground with the katana buried in his chest. He had been left to die a human, the biggest dishonor he could imagine. A fitting end for the slime ball he had become.
Hansel remembers laying there, realizing that he was now almost as much a human as the men he had commanded. He wondered fleetingly about the fire elemental and if it had all been a ruse, when a voice spoke in his head. It declared itself to be the target of his contract, sealed inside the sword buried in Hansel's chest. He had done it as a way to survive in the world, not wishing to leave it. He realized it was vain, but offered to assist Hansel. The man in the sword expressed his sorrow at sealing himself in the blade, but he also expressed that maybe fate had made him do it to assist Hansel in his redemption. To assist in making Hansel a force that could be used to better the world instead of destroying it. The man in the sword offered his power in exchange for Hansel's compliance with his guidelines. Hansel accepted, and the two began a new partnership. Hansel forced himself to fight his urges repeatedly, and with each success the man in the sword granted him new abilities.
Years passed, creating the Hansel that the world sees now. A couple years before current time, the old man spoke to Hansel for the last time. He explained that Hansel was a better man, almost good, and that he was no longer needed. He had devised a way out of the blade, but Hansel protested. This had been the one person who had changed him for the better, who made it so he could help instead of hinder. But the old man went anyways, leaving behind his formidable power in the form of the katana Hansel currently uses. He strives to unlock its secrets, to unleash its full potential, all in the hopes of one day regaining the man who had taught him to be human.
