Roe stood ten feet away from Tabatha, who was wielding a sword against him. He had taught her much of swordplay, and she was almost the equal of many soldiers. That was good for a girl who was only seventeen. Roe kept his arms folded across his chest in a cocky manner, smirking to make it even worse.
"Well, you know the drill." He said to Tabatha. They had been allowed to use the arena by bribing a guard with some of the useless metal called 'gold'. Roe was highly allergic to it, making Tabatha pay the man instead of him. Tabatha charged Roe and started in with simple one two combos which Roe easily dodged. Then she got into the more advanced combinations, giving Roe a bit of a workout. He blocked some of the blows by smacking the flat of the blade to the side and sidestepping, causing her to get frustrated and make a mistake. Roe waited for the slightly wild swing and ducked below it, doing a near perfect split. As he went to the ground, he twisted and spun to his left. Tabatha lept over the leg sweep, but Roe took advantage of this and drove the point of his fingers into the flesh directly below her right buttock. Immediately, her leg siezed up and she crashed to the ground. Roe kicked the sword out of her hand and set a knee on her chest, a little below her throat.
"Don't get frustrated. Anger is good for some things, sword fighting isn't one of them. You grow wild, predictable. And then this happens, except if it was a real enemy you would be dead." Her leg had started to relax, so Roe got up and helped her to her feet.
"Yeah, I know all that. But I have gotten better, haven't I?" Tabatha asked brightly. Roe smiled and nodded, his arms once again folded across his chest. Tabatha smiled and squeaked in delight, then ran over and got Roe's sword. She walked back over and sheathed it for him at his waist. Roe closed and buttoned his heavy coat up over it, concealing the sword, then went back to having his arms folded.
"Now, let us rest before we move on to hand to hand combat." He said. With that, they both sat down and Roe pulled out a chunk of bread which he tore in half and handed half of it to Tabatha. The two started eating wholeheartedly. He may bribe the guards everyday if he could get the peace and quiet this deserted arena gave them.
