"That's exactly what it means." Grayson stuck a finger in his ear and twisted it around as if she were boring him. "Ya may as well be spewin' out the whole list 'o laws to me right now, 'cause all I can hear is that you're too chickin ta do anythin'."
"Like I been sayin', ya hang out wit me and your papa won't even know that ya been doin' bad stuff." Grayson said. After a moment, he began to make chicken noises to mock Alice.
"S-stop that! I'm not a chicken!" she exclaimed. Then, without thinking, she said, "What do you want me to do to prove it? What kind of dangerous did you have in mind?"
Grayson laughed, out of amusement. "If you wanna prove that you're not a lil' baby, then tonight, you gotta sneak outta your room and meet up wit me! And I'll show ya how to prove you're not a chickin!"
Alice thought for a moment, her thoughts conflicted. One on the one hand, she didn't want to be called chicken by this boy. On the other, she didn't really want to do anything dangerous, or disappoint Phillis.
After a few moments of silence she said, "Ok, fine. Where are we going to meet?"
Grayson laughed, clapping his hands together in delight. "Meet me at the travelers path. I don't really care when ya get there just don't go chickin' out last second!"
Grayson sighed, he's been waiting at the travelers path for hours and was beginning to grow bored. He assumed the girl wasn't going to show up. He brushed himself off, getting ready to leave.
Alice quietly walked along the path in search of Grayson. It was dark, and she was a little scared, but she was determined to prove that she wasn't a chicken.
She saw a small figure moving around up ahead and called, "Grayson..? I-is that you?"
Grayson rolled his eyes. "That didn't mean ta take your sweet ass time. Well, whatever.. Come with me." he said, waving his hand as he began to walk towards the forest.
She looked up at the tree and smiled. Thinking of the weeks she had spent on the streets, scaling walls and houses to steal from homes, she was confident she could climb this.
