Phillis slowly sat up and looked at Alice. His eyes widened. How could he have forgotten about her? How could he have given up so easily to the idea of being killed, when here stood one person who loved him? How could he forget that?
He smiled a bit weakly. The blood on the sides of his mouth had dried up and cracked a bit as he spoke. "W...What're you doing out of bed...? It's passed your bedtime."
"I-I was in bed, a-and I felt like something was wrong, but I didn't know w-what it was. So I came here and..." Her voice was shaking as she spoke and suddenly she couldn't hold back her tears. "Papa, what happened to you?!"

"T..Try not to be so loud, okay?" Phillis pulled the girl into a one-armed hug. His other arm still kept the stab wound under his ribs together. Some of his blood would get on Alice but he didn't care. "I-I'm okay. Everything is...okay."
"You're not ok Papa! I can see that! Y-you have cuts all over you a-and when I came in, you looked like you were about to... D-die..." she said, quieter now. Alice looked up at Phillis, her eyes wide with fear. "Please tell me what happened. I know you didn't do this to yourself, so who did it?"

Phillis placed his hand on Alice's shoulder. "I'm sorry, Alice. I can't tell you that... Actually, I don't want you to tell a single person what you saw here. Not even daddy." he cleared his throat, shifting his body painfully. "Can you do that.. for me?"
"But why? Why can't anyone know? If someone did this to you, you should tell the knights who it was so they can catch him. A-and why can't you tell me?" she said while clinging to the shreds of his shirt, a million questions running through her mind.

"I'm really sorry, baby." Phillis frowned a bit. It pained him to keep secrets from her. "It... It was a good person. A good person that made a mistake.. I don't want him caught." he coughed into his arm. "I'm sorry.. I can't say anything more than that.."
Alice nodded, deciding not to push any more. "Ok, Papa, I understand. D-do you want to me to treat your wounds? I know how to, from before I came here," she said, looking at the gashes on his torso.

Phillis smiled weakly. "Yeah, sure. Th-Thank you." he said. Though he knew his wounds were too deep to be fully healed, especially by just a little girl. But it was better than anything he could do himself. He removed his hand from his rib wound, blood came gushing out. He immediately put his hand back knowing Alice hated the sight of blood. "Sorry, baby. It's gross, I know."
"I-it's ok; I can handle it," she said, her voice a little shaky. "I need to get a few things - bandages and stuff. Wait here, and I'll be back in a minute." she said before running off to get the things she needed.
When she returned, she quickly got to work. Cutting off the rest of his shirt, she carefully began cleaning and bandaging the ones that weren't too deep. While she was doing this, she said, "You'll have to tell someone, so they can fixed the cuts that are really deep. If you don't, you could die.."
"Sorry if I'm hurting you," she said, noticing when he winced. "And I couldn't just leave you here! What kind of daughter would I be if I did that?" she said, attempting a smile, but she knew it was weak.
Alice just nodded and didn't say anything. After a few minutes of silence, she looked up at Phillis and said, "All done. Well, at least the ones that weren't too bad are bandaged. For the others, like that one," she gestured the stab wound by his ribs, that he still kept his hand over, "you'll need a real nurse to do that. Which you should do as soon as possible. Like, now." She gave him a stern look, which ended up looking more cute than anything.

Phillis laughed a bit, hiding the fact that it still pained him to do that much. "Alright, alright. whatever you say." he carefully stood up, taking him quite awhile to do so. Once he got up, he looked out the doors and searched around the area. "Do you know if anybody is out and about currently?"

"Nobody." Phillis said, leaving the room and motioning for Alice to do the same. "I don't want anybody to see me, that's all." he tried cupping the blood that dripped from his open wound but it was hard. Occasional drops would overflow and leave a small mark on the ground.
Alice grabbed one of the towels she had brought and ran over to Phillis. "Here," she said, handing it to him to he could press it against his wound. Then she put her arm around him in an attempt to support him. Since she was so much shorter than Phillis, her arm only went to his waist, but it was the best she could do.

Phillis couldn't help but laugh quietly once more. The way Alice was so desperate to help him was adorable.
They walked for a few minutes. Instead of heading to the infirmary, Phillis headed to his bedroom. He let go of Alice and shut the door behind them as they entered. He lit a candle, so that the room would be brighter. "Sit on my bed and don't watch what I'm doing, okay?" he said, as he opened up a small treasure box and pulled out a needle. He ran a thread through it.
Alice stared at the need and thread for a moment in horror, realizing what he was going to do. She ran over to his bed and sat with her back to him. "H-have you ever done that before?"
