Phillis nodded and then realized the girl wouldn't be able to see him do so. "Yep." he simply answered. He burnt the tip of the needle and let it cool down before piercing his skin with it. He winced in pain at the first penetration but was fine afterwards. The feeling was nothing compared to what being stabbed felt like.

When he had sewn the entire wound shut, he cut the thread loose and tied it into a knot. "Done." he said, so that Alice would know it was safe to look. He put the needle back in his treasure box and locked it up again.

Alice slowly turned around, a little afraid at what she would see. Looking at the stitches, she thought they looked a little gross, but a lot better than the gaping wound. "Are you ok now? You won't die or anything?"

Phillis smiled. "I'm fine. I promise I won't die."

I should have though, Phillis thought to himself. I should have bleed to death. But Alice's timing was just too perfect.

"I'm so glad, Papa!" she said, very carefully hugging him. "I don't know what I would do without you."

Phillis patted Alice's head and then hugged her back. "I'm sure you'd be fine off with just daddy." he smiled, but he did appreciate how sweet she was being.

"I'm sure I would too, but it just wouldn't be the same without you around."

"You're too sweet." Phillis laughed and sat on the bed beside her. He pulled her into his lap and hugged her for a moment. " I think I might have to leave you for awhile though.."

Alice looked up at Phillis in surprise, her eyes wide. "W-what? W-where are you going?"

Phillis shrugged. "I-I'm not really sure yet, but, I know I can't stay here. I might not be able to come back at all, to be honest. But that doesn't mean you'll never see me again. It just means it may be awhile until you do."

Alice wasn't sure what to say. She hadn't been expecting this. "But... Why? I-it's not something I did, is it?" she asked, automatically assuming Phillis was leaving because of her.

"No, of course not! Baby, you have to stop thinking like that. Not everything is your fault."

"S-sorry.. Habit, I guess." After a moment of silence, she said, "I don't suppose I could come with you, where ever you're going..?" Alice already knew the answer, but thought she would ask anyways.

"I don't think that's possible. Not yet, at least." Phillis frowned upon seeing the sad look on the girls face. He kissed her forehead. "I'll come back for you though. I promise."

Alice looked down so Phillis couldn't see her eyes watering. "When are you leaving?" she asked, hoping he wouldn't notice the sadness in her voice and how much her body was shaking.

Phillis hugged the girl a bit tighter, chocking back tears of his own. He didn't think departing would upset her this much. Seeing her cry made him feel upset too. "I have to leave within the night."

Alice stiffened and squeezed her eyes shut, but that didn't stop the tears. She sat in Phillis' lap for a while, crying in silence. She wanted to to hug him and never let him leave, but she knew she couldn't do that.

When she managed to get a hold of herself, she said, "Papa, I know you have your reasons for leaving, but do you really have to leave? Is whatever this is so important that you have to leave everything behind? W-what about Avaleur, and Daddy?"

"I'm sorry, baby. I'll come back and tell everyone everything as soon as I can. But Avaleur is better off without me." Phillis smiled a half smile. "I have to ask one favor of you though. Can you do it for me?"

Alice shook her head violently, her hair flying in her face. "It's not better off without you! You're the best king, and no one could ever be better!" she sobbed. Then she composed her and said, "W-what do you need me to do? I'll do anything you ask me to."

"I need you to pretend I'm dead." Phillis said seriously. "I know this is a lot to ask of you but I really need you to do this for me. Think you can?"

Enoch had waited the whole time in the darkness of the corner. He had known about Kyle's job and understood his choice of action completely. He just had another way of taking care of it. He had hoped to tell both Phillis and Kyle his plan but he had not had enough time. He was too late and Phillis was out of the castle when he tried to tell him. Now he could do a bit of modifying and hopefully still make it work, but it was best not to have the little girl see anymore of these types of things.

He and another cloaked man exited the corner and walked hurriedly over to the blood, "Alright, it pains me that this day has come Connor..." Enoch said to the other man sadly.

"It is what I prepared for right?" the honorable and courageous man answered. He removed his hood and one who didn't know would have guessed it to be Phillis! The man had devoted his life to be the kings double if need be. He had done everything, changed his whole life for this one moment. Everything, numerous surgeries to change his face, hair, and eyes. Even a painful process of grinding his teeth down to make him have buck teeth and getting his ear cut off. He wore royal cloths stolen from the kings closet. In truth even Enoch, who knew, was thinking it may have been Phillis.

Connor took off his cloak and put on the kings cloak that had been taken off of him before the brutal slicings. He sighed, "Alright here we go I guess. Promise to keep him safe..." "I will, I promise you." and with that Enoch slit his throat as to kill him first so he wouldn't have to go through the pain of all the other cuttings to match Kyle. He then cleaned the blade and placed a bit of newly cut werewolf fur. That would be a headach to fix but it would take any link away from Kyle. Except Phillis' word that is.

Several minutes later he had finished and left the room after putting on his mask. Now time to find the king. He cleaned every drop of blood with a rag dosed in a chemical to thoroughly clean the spot. Make sure no one followed it. He reached the room where the trail ended and knocked before opening door. He immediately took off his mask so he wold be recognized.
